Katrina Alkinburg is a Pennsylvania certified special educator who earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Bloomsburg State College in 1982. She also has earned educational credits equivalent to a master's degree from Temple and Villanova Universities. Katrina has extensive training in the Wilson Reading System and has attended training for Lindamood-Bell programs.
Katrina's teaching career began in 1983 at the Pathway School in Norristown, Pennsylvania as a special education teacher. Katrina also fulfilled a role as a behavior assistant designing behavior modification programs for students with different disabilities.
In 1986, Katrina accepted a position as a learning disabilities teacher for the Colonial School District in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. During her 14 years at Colonial School district, Katrina mentored new teachers, piloted new reading and math programs and was a member of both the Discipline Committee and Child Study Team.
Katrina relocated to Port Deposit, Maryland in 1993 and in 1999 retired her teaching position to become a full-time mother and homemaker. Katrina did not want to end her teaching career, and seeing a need, started tutoring children who were struggling academically. Katrina's tutoring program was so successful that in 2002, her small business grew into The Learning Curve. Currently, The Learning Curve has four certified teachers on staff serving the needs of all her clients.
Katrina Alkinburg is a member of the International Reading Association(IRA) and Education Industry Association(EIA).
